I’ve been an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) for 19 years and I’ve built my reputation on an above average pass rate. I work well with nervous drivers and feel nothing should get in the way of someone’s determination to pass their test. Following my last industry standards check I received an A grading and I have helped almost 1,000 people safely progress from learners to fully qualified drivers during my time as an instructor.
Gary Greenup, Member of the Driving Instructors Association (DIA)
Excellent driving instructor. Very professional, reliable and flexible. Effective teacher who is very good at explaining maneuvers and all other aspects of driving. If you want to increase your chances of passing first time, and if you want an instructor who teaches you how to drive well (not just how to pass), I would highly recommend Independence Driving School.

I had a few instructors and tests before I had Gary and I passed first time with him. I honestly could not recommend him enough! Honestly the best instructor! He’s so calm and patient with you, he makes you feel so relaxed. :)

Really sound guy, good craic, really good teacher. Very good at reading people also, knowing how you feel sometimes even more so than yourself. Worth the cost.

Was recommended Gary by a relative, I was very nervous starting my lessons later in life. Gary was patient and supportive and gave me feedback at the end of every lesson. I worked shifts at the time and he always accommodated me. I worked some 15 miles from home and expressed a concern that I was extremely nervous about the drive so as part of some of my lessons we drove to my workplace as practice. I always felt Gary was striving to teach me how to drive rather than just pass a test as is the case with some companies. He is genuinely a great gentleman.

I passed with Gary in October last year 1st time. He put me at ease as soon as I got in the car. Funny and cheeky bloke. Just what you need trust me. Helped me through a traumatic time too when I was going to cancel my lessons. Absolute top instructor

Absolutely amazing instructor. Gary makes you feel so comfortable and at ease. I had 2 previous instructors before Gary and hated learning to drive, he made it easy and fun and I really enjoyed learning!

I could not recommend Gary highly enough as a driving instructor, he has a way of teaching that just makes everything just click. He made me feel incredibly comfortable in the car and eased me even as a very nervous driver. If you want the best driving instructor look no further!

Gary is a fantastic driving instructor. I have started to learn and quit many times but with Gary I kept going and passed first time. He is relaxed and funny but serious when he needs to be. Which I think is the perfect mix and what you need in a job like this. I never felt uncomfortable with the lessons and felt that we went at the right pace for me. I have recommended Gary to a few people and definitely would keep doing so. He is a great guy and a pleasure to learn with.

Gary is one of the nicest people ever! I was really nervous in starting driving and he put me at ease. It only took me 5 months to pass thanks to the time Gary put into my lessons. Don’t think he ever cancelled one. We had a good laugh and he was never too serious except when I made a SILLY mistake. Thanks Gazza you’re a mint instructor :)

The theory test is a test of driving knowledge rather than a practical test of driving. You have to get a minimum of 43 questions correct out of 50. The questions cover all aspects of driving and basic mechanics of the car.
The test itself, is done on touch screen computer and we have computer programs for you to get practice on before the real thing.

The Hazard Perception test comprises of 14 video clips which have 15 hazards in total in the 14 clips. You can achieve a maximum of 5 points for spotting the hazard at the correct time down to one point if you spot it too late. The pass mark for hazard perception test is at present 44 out of 75. You will sit your hazard test straight after your theory test . If you fail either of them you have to re-sit them both again.
FREE! One month’s subscription to Driving Test Success Online for all pupils to help with the Theory Test. There is also a DVD available for your assistance.
The test lasts about 40 minutes and involves the following:
Paperwork – You must take with you your full licence and your theory certificate. Paper counterpart is no longer valid (as of June 2015)
Eyesight test – you must be able to read a number plate from 20.5 metres. If you cannot read the number plate the test will be stopped.
Vehicle Checks – You will be asked a safety question about the car before you drive away. Whilst driving you will be asked another question.
Driving – you are expected to drive on a number of roads, which can vary in size, amount of traffic and speed limits. You are expected to perform one manoeuvre and possibly an emergency stop. You will drive independently for about 20mins following either traffic signs, or following directions on a Sat-Nav.
If you drive to the required standard, avoid making any serious or dangerous faults, and do not make more than 15 driver faults you will succeed in passing your test.
